# Wordle Solver — word list sources

Built by `~/projects/wordle-tools/build-wordlists.mjs` (on the server, outside the web root).
Lists retrieved 2026-10-13. Counts are printed by the build script each run.

| List | Source | License | Used for |
|------|--------|---------|----------|
| ENABLE (`enable1.txt`) | Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon, via github.com/dolph/dictionary | Public domain | Valid guesses |
| SCOWL size 70 (`wamerican-large`, Ubuntu package 2020.12.07) | Kevin Atkinson, wordlist.aspell.net | Permissive (below) | Valid guesses |
| SCOWL size 35 (`wamerican-small`, Ubuntu package 2020.12.07) | Kevin Atkinson, wordlist.aspell.net | Permissive (below) | Likely answers |

Processing: lowercase, keep `^[a-z]{5}$` (drops proper nouns and punctuation), dedupe.
Likely answers = SCOWL 35 minus simple inflections (BOOKS, AIMED, CRIES) whose base word is also common.
Answers are always a subset of valid guesses. A short blocklist (slurs, profanity, explicit terms)
is removed from both lists.

These lists are close to, but not the same as, the lists used by The New York Times' Wordle.
They are not copied from the game. If an answer seems to be missing, use "Include all valid
guesses", or "Add anyway" for an unknown word.

Unofficial helper; not affiliated with The New York Times. Wordle is a trademark of
The New York Times Company.
